Jon Stewart’s shtick is really more pointing out hypocrisy or showing film clips that directly counter whatever bloviating a politician is doing lately. It’s low hanging fruit.
As such, personally, I’m more of a Stephen Colbert fan. It takes a lot of talent, heart, wit and intelligence to satirize the right by posing in character as a ridiculous rightie. But Jon Stewart — who was my favorite until about a year ago and I went over to Colbert’s more shrewdly subversive satire — and his writers (they should get as much credit) do have their days!
Last night was one of those days. Stewart was so foaming at the mouth over Fox “News” anger that Obama allegedly passed the mantle of world superpowerdom over to Russia that he went off on a classic rant (thanks to his writers too!):
I get that Fox opposes the Syria peace plan because its modus operandi is to foment dissent in the form of a relentless, irrational contrarianism to Barack Obama and all things Democratic to advance its ultimate objective of creating a deliberately misinformed body politic whose fear, anger, mistrust and discontent is the manna upon which it sustains its parasitic, succubus like existence, BUT… sorry, I blacked out for a second I was saying something?
Take that all you angry, old, white over-65 Fox “News” viewers. (That’s the stat by the way — that most of their viewers are OVER 65 because they stop counting at 65.)
