Here’s a link to this powerful video which shows the absolute horrific devastation wrought by palm oil companies that are actually MEMBERS of the toothless greenwashing organization, the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.

According to producers:

“In March 2013 International Animal Rescue Indonesia, together with government conservation staff, rescued four orangutans from forest in Indonesian Borneo that was being bulldozed to make way for oil palm. The company involved, Bumitama Gunajaya  Agro, is a member of the RSPO and cleared the forest in violation of the body’s statutes. IAR Indonesia urged the company to stop clearing the forest to allow time to rescue other orangutans stranded in pockets of forest, at risk of starvation.”  (Emphasis mine.)

The orangutans who were rescued literally had their home chopped down around them.  Nowhere left to go, they had to be rescued.

Here’s my cynical take on this destruction:  it won’t stop in Indonesia and Malaysia until all the forests are gone and the greedy corporations and their corrupt political conspirators have squeezed every ounce of profit from their once-great world resource.  Sickening, disgusting…and sad.
