Rate of Global Warming is 50 Times Faster Than Rate of Cooling in Last 5000 Years

The journal Science dropped a bombshell yesterday.  As quoted in a Think Progress report:

During the last 5,000 years, the Earth on average cooled about 1.3 degrees Fahrenheit–until the last 100 years, when it warmed about 1.3 degrees F.

What does this mean:  Well, according to the story, this rise in temperature is “poised to destroy the stable climate that made civilization possible.”

In other words, something has to be done — and fast.  And if you have children (or grandchildren), you should be very afraid for their future.  I’m afraid and I don’t even have kids.
